Maria Duenas: Homage to Heifetz CD

23-year-old Spanish violinist María Dueñas, winner of the 2021 Yehudi Menuhin Competition, pays tribute to one of her idols, the great virtuoso Jascha Heifetz. As Heifetz once did, she pairs Korngold’s Violin Concerto with Lalo’s Symphonie espagnole. The program, recorded with Gustavo Dudamel and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra, also features an orchestral version of  Debussy’s The Girl with the Flaxen Hair as well as miniatures by Debussy and Ponce with pianist Itamar Golan. For the piano and violin repertoire, Dueñas played the 1731 “Heifetz, Piel” Stradivarius, once owned by Jascha Heifetz.
