Corelli: Concerti grossi Op. 6, 1-6 CD
The Berlin Academy for Ancient Music, led by its two concertmasters Mayumi Hirasaki and Georg Kallweit, presents a recording of six Concerti grossi, Op. 6 by the composer and violin virtuoso Arcangelo Corelli, who received almost cult-like reverence during his lifetime. Corelli had been experimenting with this distinctive form of instrumental music since the late 1670s, but it was only towards the end of his life that he published these exemplary pieces, laying the foundations of the form for future composers such as Handel.
